How we started was through the legacy of my great grandfather, Guy Aubrey Chalkley, who purchased what is possible the most beautiful piece of safari land in South Africa back in 1933. We built and opened our first Lodge under the banner of Lion Sands in April 2001 and since then have acquired the taste, passion and expertise which is required to be a world class Hotel and Lodge operator.

Many people romanticize about our industry and some even take the plunge and make the life decision to give up their more corporate lives to invest in running some beautiful Hotel or Lodge in some idyllic location however only to find out they are no longer being served but are doing the serving which has a different kind of appeal!

Our industry is incredible but you have to love looking after people and ensuring that every day the detail is being taken care of. This is not about big picture thinking but rather about attention to detail, ensuring that every guest in every moment is feeling that consideration has been given to them and their wellbeing.

We have grown our business and now have a location in four iconic regions namely Sabi Sand , Kruger National Park , Madikwe and Cape Town.

Where next.... Victoria Falls, Mozambique, Franschhoek, Hermanus or perhaps Johannesburg... but that will all depend on you our guest and of course finding the right Hotel or Lodge to partner with.
